John Obercian (Johnny O) is a toronto-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter. His Evocative and colourful HYBRID scores and INFECTIOUS themes AND SONGS have appeared on NBC, CBC, BBC, Netflix, CTV, Hulu, Discovery, Lifetime, MTV and VICE.

John’s scoring credits include made for television thrillers Deadly Mom Retreat directed by Jane T. Higgins, Sinister Switch Directed by Christoper Redmond, Deadly Estate directed by Sam Coyle, while contributing additional music for The Boathouse directed by Hannah Cheeseman.Theme credits include animated series TimeWarp Trio (NBC), Canada’s Next Top Model (CTV), While The Rest Of Us Die (VICE). Other scoring credits include Canada’s Next Top Model, animated series Zeroman, While The Rest Of Us Die. In 2021 he scored the multi-award winning short Platform and “Superbloom” for Toronto History Museums. His song “Scuze Me” appears in EP 101 of Working Moms, directed by Catherine Reitman.

Also a songwriter and producer, in 2018 he was invited by the Canadian Music Publishers Association to attend their CMP Creates Songwriting Initiative, co-penning “Son In Law” for Hotel Mira’s critically acclaimed Perfectionism album. Other writing collaborations have included Hawksley Workman, Thomas D’arcy, and pop artist Tilsen.

John is also a veteran performer and studio musician in Canada’s Pop and Jazz scenes having toured with artists as diverse as Sarah McLachlan and NOJO with Don Byron. He appears on Juno Award winning records from Sarah Harmer and NOJO and has performed at international jazz festivals in hockey arenas, on late night talk shows and with symphony orchestras. He has performed and recorded with Juno winners Whitehorse since 2017.

His commercial credits are numerous and include Corona, Nissan, Budweiser, Ikea, Volkswagen, Porsche, BMW among others.

He is a York University Jazz Program and Banff Center Alumnus.
